I finally figured out the actual date when I’m leaving on my next trip – Wednesday.
Meanwhile, today I was updating my Beertabase when I discovered that a local brewery that has been promising an opening for a while now has finally opened.
So I hopped (see what I did there) on down to Scottsville, VA for a taste of James River Brewing Company.
They had about a half-dozen offerings, and I tried a flight of four of them. The bartender pretty much picked ’em for me, after I assured her that I wasn’t a hophead.
Styles were mostly British, which I liked (man, I miss real British ale), and apart from one of them being flatter than I usually like, they were good, solid, drink-anytime beers. I almost wanted to fill a growler there, but I decided I don’t have much time before my trip and probably wouldn’t get to drink most of it, thus violating Rule #3: Don’t Waste Beer.
So this was good practice for getting back into the brewery-visiting thing.
