Tomorrow

I leave tomorrow, but I leave on a sad note…

I found out today that yesterday, someone I knew was killed in a car wreck while driving home.

That’s bad enough, but I saw her, yesterday, not long before the accident, alive, having a good time. We said hi, we joked around, I snuck up behind her and tickled her, and she laughed… I didn’t know her all that well, I suppose, but well enough. Well enough that I’ll miss her laugh.

24 years old, and now gone. Life is manifestly unfair. I wish I had a picture of her to post here… she was beautiful, and not just in pictures. But I don’t.

I’d just talked to Ashley (I mentioned her a couple posts back) today about living your life because anything can happen at anytime. I hadn’t heard about the accident, then.

I promise to be extra careful behind the wheel.

See you on the road…

  1. Sorry to hear about Ashley. I can’t imagine my life ending at 24 (though I desperately tried to make it so a few years after that age). Eighteen years of missed experiences that I’m not willing to give up make this sort of news sad to me but mostly the loss to her family and friends.

Please be safe and don’t for forget the chandelier! LOL Above all, enjoy your trip!

    • I apologize that I wasn’t more clear — Ashley is fine. It was another young woman I knew who died. I did not name her for privacy reasons. I was only pointing out that I’d had a discussion with someone about the uncertainty of life just prior to hearing the tragic news.

      • No wonder I was confused as to how you could have talked to Ashley today when the accident was yesterday. I pondered that line several times but apparently I should have kept pondering it until I figured it out. Those pigs must have made off with my brain. Well, still a loss. Have you left yet…you seem to be online but could just be me fuzzy brain! 😉

  2. Sorry to hear this, Robert.

Please do drive as safely as possible, and keep us updated!

  3. Happy Trails! Sorry to hear about your friend. That’s a tough way to start a cross country trip, but on the other hand it really brings home the point that life is meant to be lived. Safe travels & see you on the Left Coast!

PS – see, I can be a good girl. 🙂

  4. So sorry to hear of your loss. That is just a nudge to be grateful for each day on its own terms and to be extra-careful on your own trip! Godspeed.
